Sustainability at The Sea Croft St Annes

In a world where people are increasingly conscious of their impact on the environment and are starting to see first-hand the effects of climate change on the UK, we at the Sea Croft are keen to play our part in minimising that impact.

Whilst we may be small, our sustainability aims are mighty! We recognise that as a business, we impact the environment and create a carbon footprint while servicing our wonderful guests. Therefore, it is important that we take steps to minimise that footprint while retaining the quality of service you would expect from us.

With that in mind, we have already made steps to reduce carbon emissions in the following ways:

Energy & water

  • We are working on a programme to upgrade all our lighting in guest rooms and communal areas to LED
  • The lighting in our corridors is now on motion sensors, so it doesn’t stay on unless it detects movement from guests.
  • We have increased the volume of loft insulation to keep heat in better.
  • We implement a switch-off policy to ensure lights are turned off in rooms when vacated.
  • All our radiators have thermostatic valves to control temperature, which switch off when the desired temperature is reached. Heating and hot water are timer and thermostatically controlled.
  • Guest towels are changed on request rather than daily to reduce energy, water and detergent usage.
  • We are upgrading our shower heads to ensure high water pressure while maximising water efficiency through aeration.
  • Hot water tea/coffee for breakfast is kept in a thermos to minimise the number of kettle boils required per day.

Materials & waste

  • We’ve moved from single sachet jams to reusable pots to reduce plastic waste.
  • Teas and coffees in rooms are now in reusable pots rather than individual plastic sachets.
  • We bulk purchase food and cleaning materials where possible to reduce plastic container waste.
  • Shampoo, conditioners, and hand washes are provided in all rooms in pump dispenser bottles that can be refilled, rather than using single-use small plastic bottles for each product.
  • Breakfast pre-orders are taken, which has helped reduce the amount of food waste by over 50%.

These factors may be small individually, but we believe they all add up. We will continue striving for environmental improvement and sustainable working practices while providing you with the best service possible.
